Former Pakistan cricket captain Misbah-ul-Haq has expressed disappointment about the recent speculations surrounding Babar Azam's captaincy. In a recent interview in Lahore, Misbah emphasized the importance of thorough assessments before making any changes to the team's leadership. He also criticized the comparison between Babar and Indian player Virat Kohli as unfair, as Kohli has played much more international cricket.
Misbah praised Babar's consistency with the bat and his status as one of Pakistan's greatest players, currently ranked in the top five in the world. He also acknowledged Babar's recent achievements, including the Sir Garfield Sobers ICC Men's Cricketer of the Year Award and being named captain of the ICC ODI Team of the Year 2022 and inclusion in the ICC Test Team of the Year.
Regarding Pakistan's poor Test cricket performance, Misbah pointed out that Babar alone is not responsible and that there is a lack of planning and proper team selection. Despite the recent Test whitewash against England and two draws against New Zealand, Babar still remains a top player in the world, according to Misbah.
