FM Bilawal to embark on two-day trip to Russia today

Pakistan's Foreign Minister, Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, will be visiting Moscow from January 29th to 30th, at the invitation of Russia's Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov. This visit is a sign of improving relations between the two countries and a chance for both leaders to discuss important issues affecting the region.

One significant topic of discussion will be the recent agreement signed by Pakistan and Russia on the supply of Russian crude oil and oil products. Pakistan is facing a severe economic crisis and is hoping to import 35% of its total crude oil requirement from Russia. During their talks, both countries agreed to work on a Comprehensive Plan for Energy Cooperation, which is expected to be finalized in 2023.

Aside from energy, both leaders will also explore ways to strengthen collaboration in various fields such as trade and investment, higher education, agriculture, science and technology, and information technology. Russia's Energy Minister has already stated that Pakistan will pay for the energy purchases in currencies of friendly countries.

This visit is a major development for Pakistan as Russia extends the invitation even with the ongoing situation in Ukraine. Both sides have expressed their willingness to work towards mutual economic benefit and enhance their cooperation in various fields. The talks are expected to lay the foundation for future collaboration and strengthen the relationship between Pakistan and Russia.
